Web site upgrade

Friendlystreetpoets.org.au has been upgraded!

Editor, Raphael Sabu with the technical assistance of Rob Mader have been hard at work, transferring the old website into a new content manager. This is quite a task with more than 150 pages created thus far!

Older content is still being transferred and created - if you feel that something has been missed please feel free to email.

The new features of the site allow members to log in and post comments and the Friendly Street Poets Board to delegate publishing tasks to more volunteers. The upshot? More comprehensive coverage of Friendly Street.

Questions? Comments? Criticisms? Email Raphael Sabu or Rob Mader.

Browse along to the new friendlystreetpoets.org.au.

Best Of Friends

Friendly Street is often hailed as Australia's longest running series of public poetry readings. Indeed, the end of 2005 will mark its 30th anniversary, and something special is planned to celebrate the occasion!

The fifteen-year milestone was marked by Jeri Kroll and Barry Westburg's excellent book, Tuesday Night Live. This year, Steve Evans and Kate Deller-Evans are undertaking a similar project. They will be researching the history of Friendly Street; conducting interviews (with past editors, contributors and readers, etc.) and looking through the archives to produce an account of the first thirty years of its existence. They will also produce a selection of poems edited from all of its previous volumes. It is planned to launch the resulting history and anthology in one title during Writers' Week in the 2006 Adelaide Festival of Arts.

Steve and Kate are experienced editors who have a long and continuing association with Friendly Street. Both have been contributors to its annual anthologies, have had their first volumes of poetry published by FS, have edited one of the Friendly Street readers, and have served on its executive committee. Between them, they have written or edited eighteen books.

Anyone who has material that might be useful, especially photographs, or who has an anecdote to share about FS is most welcome to contact Steve and Kate:
